About the family

We are looking for a proactive and confident Family Assistant for a warm, energetic, and relaxed expat family living in Amsterdam. The family recently moved from the United States and consists of two parents and two children aged 9 and 11.

The family is sociable, enjoys socializing, and likes to be active together. Both children attend an international school in Amstelveen. The father often works from home, while the mother works full-time outside the home.

They are looking for a Family Assistant who will naturally become part of the family, bring structure and calm to the afternoons, and confidently support the children in their development.

An important part of this role is supporting healthy routines within the family, including planning and preparing nutritious, well-balanced meals.

The role of

In this role, you will combine practical care for the children with organizing and managing the daily routines within family life. During your working hours, you will be the point of contact and ensure that the afternoons run smoothly, with structure and a positive atmosphere at home.

You like to take initiative, think ahead, and organize tasks independently. You know how to motivate children, supervise homework in a positive way, and combine warmth with clear boundaries. Especially after school, you offer structure, space for relaxation and exercise, and then peace and quiet again.

's duties and responsibilities include:

• Picking up the children from school (and occasionally dropping them off in the morning)
• Supervising and motivating homework;
• Provide structure and clear boundaries, especially after school hours;
• Organizing and supervising activities;
• Grocery shopping and household support;
• Planning meals and preparing nutritious, balanced meals;
• Managing packages and doing small errands/chores;
• Keeping the family calendar up to date;
• Manage School Apps and Communication;
• Support with the overall organization of the household;

Who are we looking for?

We are looking for a warm, energetic, and independent Family Assistant who combines friendliness with self-confidence. You feel comfortable with responsibility, enjoy working with children with different needs, and know how to motivate them in a positive and supportive way.

You are someone who:

• Independently sees what needs to be done;
• Warm, friendly, cheerful, and energetic;
• A strong but balanced personality has;
• Enjoys cooking and preparing healthy meals;
• Can set boundaries calmly and clearly (not authoritatively)
• Is emotionally available and creates a sense of security;
• Has a background in education (preferred, not required)

Practical requirements

• Can ride a cargo bike;
• Willing to travel with the family during vacations;
• Maximum commute time of 30 minutes;

Employment

• Hours: approx. 30–36 hours per week;
• Working days: Monday through Friday;
• Indicative working hours: 12:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m. (occasional mornings or extra hours for school runs or schedule changes)
• Start date: flexible, finding the right match is most important;
• Duration: long-term position;
• Salary indication: €3,500 – €4,500 per month (based on a 40-hour working week)
• Guidance and support from The Family Assistant;
